Minority-Majority issue in J&K
All governments that hold power in J&K know clearly that the Muslims are in a majority in the state. According to figures of 2011 census, the Muslims constitute around 69 per cent of the population.
Hindus are at a distant second place, numbering around 23 per cent. But when it comes to gaining from schemes meant to ameliorate the lot of `minorities’, the benefits go to Muslims, about three times as many as Hindus.
Through a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), the petitioner wants to bring out the angularities before the court.
Since many in the state, both Hindus and Muslims, perhaps for diametrically opposite reasons, will want to read the petition. It is given herewith.
